Saitama is located in the Pacific Ocean side climate zone. In winter, the seasonal northwesterly winds are very strong, the temperature is quite high in summer, and hail and thunder is frequent.
Located next to Tokyo with convenient transportation, there is a concentration of many diverse industries.

Production center for ”Edo-kimekomi” and ”Iwatsuki-doll”
Most of the dolls for ”Hina-matsuri Festival” and ”Tango no sekku” are produced in Saitama.
The reason for the active doll making is that many craftsmen and sculptors who took part in the construction at Nikko came to live in Iwaki. The area is also suitable for the Paulownia tree, from which ”kiriko powder” is made, a material used to form the doll’s face.
”Wado Kaichin” - first currency in circulation in Japan was minted here!
Chichibu area was known for the production of native copper from ancient times, and the currency ”Wado Kaichin” was produced there, a major contribution to the development of the Japanese monetary system.
Remnants of history still remain such as ”Wado Saikutsu Rotenbori Ato”(the open-pit copper mines) and ”Sei-jinja” (Sacred Shrine).
”Seijin no hi”(Coming-of-Age Day) began in Saitama!
”Seinen shiki” was held in Warabi-shi, Saitama in the 22nd year of ”Showa”. It was a ceremony held in the postwar period to encourage young people to have high hopes for a bright future.
This custom has spread all over Japan and now is held as ’Seijin Shiki”.

Yao Honten
Chichibu region has the optimal temperature difference between hot and cold weather, and ”Chichibunishiki” is produced by a master sake brewer ”Toji”, who is also recognized as ”Modern Master of Traditional Crafts”.

Shimizu Shuzou
200 years of ”sake” making in the rural area of Saitama. Homemade yeast and delicate handwork produces the renowned sake ”Kikkou Hanabishi” popular for its balanced taste.

Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Jinja Shrine
The headquarter of about 280 Hikawa Jinja Shrines all over the country of ”Musashinokuni”. It was hailed as ”Oinaru Miyai” (a great shrine), the origin of the name of the city ”Omiya”.

Senba Toshogu Shrine
Toshogu Shrine enshrines Ieyasu Tokugawa. Richly colored pavilion still remains today.

Asami Reizou Kanezaki Honten
Shaved ice made from mountain stream water frozen very slowly in an open air ice making pond. Containing a lot of minerals, the ice tastes sweet.
