Nagasaki is located in the western part of Kyushu and faces the Easter China Sea in the west, the Tsushima Strait in the north and Saga prefecture in the east. The ria coastline creates a complicated landform with many islands in the open sea such as Iki, Tsushima and the Goto Islands. The area has a relatively warm climate due to the warm currents, but also experiences many typhoons.
