Nara

Nara prefecture is located close to the center of the Kii Peninsula with both an inland and mountainous climate in the northern region, creating extreme temperature differences. The southern mountain areas has a mountainous climate, resulting in annual precipitation ranging from 3000 to 5000 mm making the region very humid.

Largest production of ”sumi”, supporting ”shodo”
The region is one the leading producers of ”sumi”. ”Nara sumi” is made from carbon powder, glue and perfumes, using the traditional process which was brought into Japan from China about 1300 years ago. The traditional method is still being used today.
