The Noto Peninsula which jets out into the Sea of Japan is located in the northern region of Ishikawa prefecture, and is very humid with a relatively warm climate, characteristic of the Tsushima climate.
The Hakusan region to the southeast is a mountainous terrain, with the sacred mountains of Hakusan. The Kanazawa Plains, formed by the many rivers flowing from these mountains, spreads out to the Sea of Japan.

Boasting a trove of traditional crafts
Kaga-yuzen, Kutani-yaki, Wajima-nuri. Following Toshiie Maeda’s successful take over of Kanazawa in the medieval period, the Kaga Hyakumangoku culture flourished in Ishikawa, leading to the foundation of world renowned traditional crafts. Ishikawa continues to enthusiastically promote the development of young artists.
No. 1 production of gold foil
Gold foil is used quite lavishly in crafts traditional to Kanazawa, as well as at Nikko Toshogu Shrine and Kinkakuji Temple.
The ”Kanazawa foil” is micro millimeters thick, and is exported outside of Japan as well as all over the country.
Driving on the beach of the Sea of Japan?
石川県羽咋市にある全長約8kmのThe ”Chirihama Nagisa Driveway”, located in Hakui-shi, extends 8 km and is the only road in Japan that is actually located on a beach. The very fine sand allows large buses, passenger cars and even bicycles to pass through.
