Tottori

Tottori prefecture is made up of 3 major regions, the eastern region with Tottori city, the central region with Kurashiki city, and the western region with Yonago city and Sakaiminato city. The Tottori Sand Dunes has been designated as a special sanctuary within the Sanin Kaigan National Park.

The largest sand dune in Japan - Tottori Sand Dune
Facing the Sea of Japan, the Tottori Sand Dune stretches 16 km east to west, and 2 km north to south. The undulating dune has a height difference of 47 m, with changes in the wind and climate creating beautiful sand ripples. The sun setting into the Sea of Japan is a splendid sight to see.
”Nijisseiki Pears” - a product that made its name in history
Nijisseiki pears have a fresh sweetness and distinct texture, and the variety has been grown for about 100 years with improvements made along the way. The central region of Tottori is famous for this particular variety.
”Inshu Washi” - ideal ”shodo” paper
”Inshu Washi” has a very long history and there are records it was presented to the Imperial Court during the Heian era. The raw materials and techniques have been carried on, and ”Inshu Washi” dominates domestic production of ”shodo” paper.
