A new proposal
The company was founded to make new proposals to modern society using handmade “washi” paper, a traditional craft of Ikazaki. Hiroyuki Saito, CEO came to Ikazaki and started Ikazaki Shachu Inc. in July 2008. He has developed items that are the fusion of the craftsmanship of Ikazaki and contemporary senses, such as wallpaper and lighting and tapestry, using handmade paper. Above all, “wallpapers for decoration”, coasters, greeting cards, and the letter sets, created by Gabor Ulvezki who is a designer invited from France, are beautiful products, which are made by applying gold foil gilding to Ikazaki “washi” paper.
Using the things from Iwate as material
Gabor is famous for the designs of wallpaper using metal foils, and he has been certified as a French National Heritage Company in 2007. This is a French system of preserving heritages that tells the path of industrial development, and passing history to future generations, and it is awarded to companies recognized as cultural heritage.
The collaboration with a leading French designer with the ”manufacturing” skills that Ikazaki’s predecessors have nurtured.
The products full of enthusiasm are the proof that Ozu “washi” papers are highly appreciated, even today.
