Introducing a breath of fresh air into Seto
”Ceramic Artist, Shingo Takeuchi”

Born and bred in the land of Seto

Shingo Takeuchi was born in Seto, the town of ceramics, studied ceramics in training school in Aichi (now Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Higher Technical College), and studied under Shuntei Kato the second. Shuntei Kato is a very famous ceramic artist born in Seto, making Takeuchi a successor in the line of Seto, the home of ceramics. Takeuchi was familiar with pottery since his childhood. In Seto, even some primary schools have pottery kilns, so one can say that the region gives birth to ceramic artists. He makes traditional vessels and tea ceremony utensils, but also vases and objects of art in modern design. Nakata held a piece made to look like a camera. Very delicate skills are required for its production.

Works of art that are carefree

Takeuchi has received a number of awards for his work, and his pieces are highly recognized, not only in Japan but also overseas. They have been highly acclaimed in exhibitions in Taiwan, Korea and in Europe.

Takeuchi used to work as a businessman before he entered training school. That may be the reason why his work doesn’t have a fixed style, and seem to be carefree, without any restrictions. He incorporates various techniques in his work, and has a challenging spirit for ceramics.
