Shrine said to be Oldest in Omi
The vermillion colored gates soar by the shore of Lake Biwa, and the lake, dyed dark red from the sunset. The hue of dark red overlap, creating a fantastic view. Shirahige Shrine, depicted by the words themselves, white beard shrine: is the god for longevity. It has long been called ”Shirahige-san” with familiarity and affection. It has a long history, being said to have been founded in 1900, and is the oldest existing shrine in Omi. It is the head shrine to all the Shirahige Shrines across the country.
Many worshippers attend the festival.
Hideyoshi Toyotomi is also one of those who have revered this shrine. The present main building was constructed under orders by his son, Hideyori. Their annual ”Reitai Festival” that is held in September, gathers people from around the country. Often referred to as ”Itsukushima of Omi”, its beauty charms many.
