The folktale of Ogoto ”onsen”There are two large public bath facilities, ”Benkei no Hikizurigane” for men and ”Tennyo no Mai” for women. The water is a simple alkalescent spring, and is effective for neuralgia and recovery from fatigue. In fact there is a story behind the natural spring ”Ogoto onsen”. A long time ago, there was a valley where a large snake with 8 heads lived, and there was a pond called the Nenbutsu Ike nearby. This pond was said to be effective for curing disease and people would come and throw coins in the pond and pray. This Nenbutsu Ike is said to be ”Ogoto onsen” itself. |
