Matsumoto Shuzo is located in Fushimi, Kyoto which is famous for its sake, alongside Nada in Hyogo. ”sake” manufacturing especially thrived during the Meiji and Taisho eras and many ”sake” breweries founded then still exist to this day. Matsumoto Shuzo is an long-established brewery opened in 1791. The building is old and has a refined elegance to it. The stylish brewery, red-brick warehouse, octagon-shaped chimney were all built in the Taisho period and is designated as ”Fushimi’s Japanese Brewery-related Asset” by the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry. ”Modernization of Industrial Heritage” was started in 2007 where the Ministry selects cultural assets that has contributed to Japan’s industrial modernization divided into 33 groups. Matsumoto Shuzo always kept an enterprising spirit, always keen to incorporate state-of-the-art technology. This spirit was the reason for their designation.
