One of the Five Great Inari Shrines in Japan
“Taikodani Inari Shrine”

”Inari” which has been revered since ancient times

Taikodani Inari Shrine is one of the five great Inari Shrines in Japan, know as “Oinari-san of Tsuwano”.
It has been worshiped since the Edo period as the god of abundant grain harvest and prosperity, and especially as a god of wish fulfillment. Therefore, Taikodani is the only Inari Shrine in Japan which uses the Chinese character “success” for “nari” instead of the conventional character “load” for “nari”.
The approach to the shrine is a winding mountain path lined with nearly 1000 scarlet ”tori” gates. It is like a tunnel, and in a word, breathtaking.
Eighty percent of the ”tori” gates have been donated by worshipers as gratitude for having their wish fulfilled, and twenty percent are donated to pray for their wish to be fulfilled.
